Red Battle Flyer
(Der rote Kampfflieger)
By Captain Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen
Author Profile By: Scott Slaughter
Der rote Kampfflieger is a book written by Manfred von Richthofen, a famous German fighter pilot who is considered the top scoring ace of World War I. His most common German nickname was "Der Rote Kampfflieger," which roughly translates to "The Red Battle Flyer" or "The Red Fighter Pilot." He's better known today as the Red Baron. Richthofen was killed in combat in 1918.
Der rote Kampfflieger details some of Richthofen's experiences during World War I. He finished the book in 1917, and as it was written during World War I, it was subjected to war-time censorship. The Red Fighter Pilot was the only book he authored. Written on the instructions of the "Press and Intelligence" (propaganda) section of the Luftstreitkräfte, it shows evidence of having been censored and edited. An English translation by J. Ellis Barker was published in 1918 as The Red Battle Flyer.

Foreward/Introduction: Scott Slaughter
The War In The Air: And Particularly How Mr. Bert Smallways Fared While It Lasted is a military science fiction novel written by H. G. Wells in 1907. (Wells also wrote The War Of The Worlds.)
Bert Smallways is the hero and main character of the story. He's a typical bicycle engineer who suddenly finds himself getting swept up into a catastrophic global conflict after he accidentally stumbles upon top-secret aircraft technology, . As German airships launch a surprise attack on the United States and Asian forces join the fray, Bert witnesses the devastating power of aerial warfare.
The War in the Air is notable for its prophetic ideas, images, and concepts, including the use of aircraft in warfare, as well as conceptualizing and anticipating events related to World War I. Indeed, Wells' prophetic vision anticipates modern combat and World War I with chilling accuracy.
